Build a real fire

Wait for a hot fire. Established flame and a real bed of coals. Throwing a packet onto kindling wastes it.

Place, do not throw. Set it on a flat face of a log. It burns slower there and the color lasts noticeably longer than if it drops straight into the embers.

Before you buy
The five questions everyone asks
No. Wood fires only. The packet needs burning wood to work, and it is not designed for propane burners or artificial gas logs. This is the most common mistake in the category, so we would rather say it twice than take your money for it.
Yes, in a wood-burning fireplace with a working flue and normal ventilation. Same rule as any fire: good draw, well-ventilated room.
Kids love watching it, and an adult should be the one handling the packet and the fire. The packets are sealed and must stay sealed. Keep them out of reach, never let anyone open or eat the contents, and do not cook food over colored flames. Full details on the fire packet safety page.
There is no added fragrance. The packet burns with the fire, so what you smell is mostly the wood. As with any fire, sit upwind of the smoke and keep the area ventilated.
